What is physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy is a healthcare profession focused on managing and treating physical conditions caused by injury, illness, or disability. Physiotherapists use methods like exercises, manual therapy, education, and physical modalities to restore movement and function.

They assess your musculoskeletal system and identify the root cause of pain or limitations, and create personalized treatment plans for each patient.

What is Biomedical Dry Needling?

Biomedical dry needling (BDN) is a therapeutic technique used by trained healthcare professionals, like physiotherapists, to treat myofascial pain and dysfunction. It involves the insertion of very fine needles into specific trigger points in the muscles or soft tissues. These trigger points are tight, painful knots of muscle that can cause local pain and referred pain.

Dry needling is based on modern anatomy and neurology, aiming to release muscle tightness, improve blood flow, and reduce pain. Dry needling focuses on the physical tissue and its healing process.

During your initial visit with Melissa for physiotherapy or biomedical dry needling, you can expect a thorough assessment of your condition, including a discussion of your symptoms and medical history. Melissa will then perform an objective exam to evaluate your movement, strength, and any areas of dysfunction. Based on this information, she will create a personalized treatment plan, explaining how the therapy will help address your concerns and improve your overall well-being.
